NID stands for National Institute of Design. The institution is a premier educational institution in India in the area of providing design education and various related programmes. The NID offers both undergraduate and postgraduate courses to cater to the needs of Indian students desirous of pursuing a career in the world of design. All total the institute is comprised of five faculty streams along with 17 design domains. Moreover the institute is offering a pedagogic and student exchange programme with 35 overseas related institutions all over the world. 

The various design programmes available in the NID are
  1. Graduate Diploma Programme in Design (GDPD). This programme is of four years duration.
  2. Post-Graduate Diploma Programme in Design (PGDPD). This programme is of 2 to 2 ½ years duration.
Every year an entrance test is conducted by the institution authorities to admit fresh students to the above mentioned undergraduate and post graduate courses. Moreover the scores obtained in the entrance test conducted by the NID can also be utilized at various other design institutions namely IILM School of Design (Gurgaon), Pearl Academy of Fashion (New Delhi), WLC College and D. J. Academy of Design (Coimbatore).

To become eligible for the undergraduate courses a student needs to at least appear in the 10+2 final examinations this year or have passed the examination from a recognized institution. Likewise to become eligible for the post-graduate courses a student needs to at least appear in the Bachelor’s degree final examinations this year or have passed the examination from a recognized institution.
